Middle School is a tough time for anyone, but our group of kids face extra challenges. In Transitioning Youth, guest speakers discuss topics such as bullying, youth crime, puberty and sexual safety. The group is challenged to consider different career options and the necessary steps to accomplish their goals. The group attends field trips and speaks to professionals in a variety of fields.
The Seneca Babcock neighborhood is a food desert and many have negative attitudes toward healthy foods. To challenge this, we have cooking classes which introduce kids to healthy foods they may not try otherwise. When preparing some of their favorite dishes, the students replace unhealthy foods with healthier options. Sometimes, the kids even get to try adding healthy ingredients together to create healthy and delicious smoothies.
